Every person has unique anatomy and symptoms, which makes certain procedures better for one person than another. That is why at Lakeshore Veins we obtain a comprehensive medical history and physical examination as well as a detailed varicose vein ultrasound examination. We will discuss with you all of your findings at the time of your consult, educate you on venous disease treatment and together we will plan treatments that will have you feeling better as quickly as possible.
While we realize that there is a cosmetic component to varicose veins and our aim is to improve the appearance of your legs, our primary goal is to treat the underlying venous insufficiency that if left untreated can lead to skin changes, skin ulcerations and blood clots. See pictures of venous insufficiency in past Lakeshore Veins patients. Once the underlying disease is corrected and the blood is re routed to the normal, healthy veins, we will then work with you to make sure you are satisfied with the cosmetic result.
Varicose veins are a medical problem and their treatment is covered by most health plans. Many health plans require a trial (up to 3 months) of conservative care prior to authorization.
Conservative care includes:
- Use of graduated compression stockings
- Weight loss
- Leg elevation
- Use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents if indicated
Todays compression stockings are not the same as your grandmother would wear. At Lakeshore Veins we will help you find a pair of stockings that is comfortable for you. Most of our patients say they did not realize how much better their legs would feel after wearing stockings.
At Lakeshore Veins we will work with you on developing a conservative program that works for you and also meets the insurance criteria. In addition, hopefully we can help you make healthy lifestyle modifications that will allow you to maintain healthy legs long in to the future. Lakeshore Veins focuses on state of the art varicose vein treatments including laser vein ablation, radiofrequency vein ablation also known as Venefit Procedure, sclerotherapy (including ultrasound guided sclerotherapy) and microphlebectomy or vein surgery. Lakeshore Veins is located just off of Port Washington Road in Mequon and services patients in Milwaukee and Sheboygan. We have much more information in our blog including useful articles about horse chestnut for varicose veins, varicose eczema treatment, tips for travelers with venous disease and answers to the question “does crossing your legs cause varicose veins?“.
