HOW DO I KNOW WHAT VARICOSE VEIN PROCEDURES ARE BEST FOR ME?
At Lakeshore Veins we perform an expert evaluation and a detailed ultrasound. Depending on your symptoms and anatomy, we tailor a personal treatment plan specifically for you. We will discuss which procedures will treat your disease most effectively –and why — at your consultation.
HOW SOON WILL I NOTICE AN IMPROVEMENT IN MY SYMPTOMS?
You may have bruising or tenderness after the procedure, but you should notice an improvement in your symptoms once the procedure-related discomfort resolves.
IS THERE BRUISING OR SCARRING?
With many of the procedures there is bruising and tenderness. Everyone recovers at their own rate but most tenderness is resolved in 1-2 weeks. The incisions, if any, are small. Any related scarring should resolve by 6 months.
HOW QUICKLY CAN I RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITY?
You will need to wear a compression stocking for up to 2 weeks post procedure. You should walk immediately after the procedure and we encourage walking. We recommend no lifting greater than 20 lbs for 1 week after the procedure. If your occupation requires prolonged standing, you may need a few days off of work. Otherwise, you can return to work immediately.
DOES INSURANCE COVER THE PROCEDURES?
Insurance will usually cover laser vein treatment or laser ablation and microphlebectomy in people who are symptomatic — pain, aching, itching, swelling, and restless legs are come of the common symptoms felt by people with vein disease. Sclerotherapy is rarely covered by insurance. We will discuss insurance options with you at your appointment and we will obtain insurance pre-authorization prior to procedures.
WHICH INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE YOU IN-NETWORK WITH?
We are currently in-network with WPS, Humana, United Health Care, Cigna, Healtheos/Multiplan, Health Payment Systems (HPS), Trilogy, Medicare/Medicaid, Molina, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and UMR. For other insurance plans, we can assist you in going out-of-network, or in using cash or other payment mechanisms for your vein procedure depending on your needs. We can order ultrasound examinations in your network to make it more cost effective prior to your procedure.
We are an independent group that values taking care of patients as family. We do not charge facility fees that are common at surgery centers and large hospital facilities. We want to make it easy for you to take care of your veins. Around the time of your consultation, we can evaluate your insurance coverage and give you a better understanding of the process.
ARE THESE PROCEDURES PAINFUL?
The procedures involve several needle stings with a small gauge needle which most people tolerate well. The fluid put in to compress and insulate the vein (tumescent) can cause a pressure sensation which again is tolerated well. Most people feel the procedure is much easier to tolerate than they had expected.
HOW LONG WILL MY PROCEDURE TAKE?
We will design a treatment plan and set of procedures right for you. Depending on the vein treatments and extent of your disease, we will determine the time needed to treat you. Usually procedure time are around 1 hour, however, you can expect to be at the office for 2 – 2 ½ hours.
